Social service that has marked pacha's hearts

By: Carolina Rodriguez 10°C

Social service is one of the attitudes that all students from Santa Francisca Romana School develop. We are usually recognized all around the country, and the world, for the values and abilities we have as strong leaders. Pachas are passionate about everything they do: they always show initiative to contribute to the solving problems in different areas. Our school teaches us the meaning of service, the importance of empathy with others, and the sense of helping the poorest. In the school, we have a space to practice social service; students from 10th grade and 11th grade attend San Francisco de Asis School to teach the little kids how to color, write and how to have fun. Nevertheless, Pachas do not feel satisfied enough with the spaces offered by the school. Therefore, they seek options to practice service in other programs outside school without any obligation.

In Bogotá, an organization for young people exists and it’s called “Soñar Despierto.” It has different programs, but all of them consist of making children’s lives better. It is incredible to believe that since the organization was created, most of the participants have been students of Pachas and many of them have reached the leadership of this program. The Pachas that our staff on the program have shown amazing commitment, they work two Saturdays per month with kids of low resources that have presented difficulties throughout their lives. They look for activities that offer different spaces so that the toddlers get out of the routine and in the same way they manage to have fun.

Now, here we have a testimony from Ana lucía Girón from 10th grade: “Soñar Despierto is a space where I feel comfortable and at the same time I do a good job. It's been a long time since I enrolled in this organization simply because I got an ad in Facebook and then I decided to be part of the organization. At the beginning, I did not know very well what it was about, but as the time went by, I began to live experiences that allowed me to know a lot about children and, at the same time, to learn a lot about myself. Nowadays, I love what we do every Saturday with the youngsters, I love helping those who need it”. What Ana Lucia likes the most is not helping kids economically, on the contrary, helping them to grow spiritually. Additionally, she likes to teach toddlers about things while being friends with them. Ana Lucía affirms that being part of this group makes her happy because it is a space where she can feel like a little girl and play as she used to do when she was younger.

This is just one example of what Pachas do in their free time outside of school to help others. Many students are also part of social organizations that have as a principle to make happy the most needed. Several Pachas are part of groups such as “Techo”, “Convivio”, “Soñar despierto”, etc. Wherever Pachas go, they seek to help people with kindness and passion. Every place we step on we leave a mark and do everything in our hands to make people remember who we are and where we come from. All Pachas leave a legacy of love and caring in the hearts of others.
